Mosaic Hearts

I finished this quilt, which I'd been working on for about a year, just before Christmas for my mother-in-law. The heart block pattern came from the book Grandma's Best Full Size Quilt Blocks, from which I also took a pattern for this quilt.

The heart pieces are appliqued onto 9-inch squares of muslin and embroidered with the blanket stitch. I used the feather stitch in the rows between each block. The cotton is civil war era reproduction fabric.

I machine-quilted around the heart pieces and each block. Someday I'll get around to learning how to hand-quilt. Someday . . .
