World's Best Fitting Resource GIVEAWAY!!

Maybe because my birthday's coming up, or maybe to celebrate our first freeze of the season (forecast for tonight), or maybe even because I'm too busy to sew or blog, I felt like giving away a copy of the best fitting book I've seen.

One lucky winner will receive a 1992 edition of Fitting and Pattern Alteration: A Multi-Method Approach. This is a massive book with every fitting problem under the sun. It has great illustrations alongside the fitting theory so you can understand both the fit issue and what to do about it. Excellent book - I'll do a better review sometime when I'm less busy (hahaha).

If by chance you are one of those people who don't fit patterns perfectly straight out of the envelope, leave a comment telling me what fitting alterations you'd like to figure out.

Drawing will be held on Friday, September 23.

*ETA: I'll ship internationally, too, even if you live in New Zealand (:

  1. It would cost an absolute fortune in postage to send to me in New Zealand so I'll count myself out of the giveaway but I just wanted to say Happy Birthday! Sending you warm wishes from New Zealand. I hope you have a wonderful day and get thoroughly spoilt. I love your blog, I have four children myself and am amazed how much you achieve.

  7. well normally I don't put myself in for giveaways (because I can never think of anything interesting to giveaway myself so I feel uncharitable). But I'll go in on this one because that looks like a great book. And is one I don't actually own (which is saying something).

Also because you are so ROTTEN to rub my nose in your FROST WARNING. hmmph. (it was only 98 yesterday. whoo. hoo.) (well, I just noticed it's supposed to be down to FIFTY EIGHT tonight, so I guess I don't know what I'm complaining about!)

word verification: "grugidyn" that's a person who's snippy and rude whilst simultaneously putting herself in for a giveaway.

I would like to toss my hat in the ring for the drawing :O).

  9. Happy birthday! I'm not sure where to start with my list of adjustments - broad shoulders, broad back, swayback, wide hips, short upper body hmmm and that's just for now. Count me in please!

  10. Sloping shoulder, forward shoulder, swayback, full rear, short waist, short arms, full biceps. Mmm, I need a lot of help....

  11. I would like to figure out how fit for broad shoulders on women/girls when the rest of the bodice is not so broad! I grew up with blousey shirts due to broad shoulders, skinny body. I would love to figure out how to make fitted stuff for me and my girls, all broad shouldered!

  14. Hey this would be great. I am short 5'3", I need a full bust adjustment, a narrow back adjustment, a sloping shoulder adjustment and full hips (read pear shape) ... is it any wonder I make empire line dresses (which I love) but enough is enough. Good luck to all! Thanks for the chance.

  15. This looks a great book - count me in please!
I have problems with a pigeon chest and a slight twist in my spine so any fitting help would be great!

  16. Oh, a fitting book I don't know :-)! Always tempting, as I keep discovering areas that need to be improved. Mostly the ocmbination of old-geek shoulders with too much bust aren't very happy in anything bu the most straightforward set-in shoulders. I can do raglans in knits, but I'd like to expand my repertoire.
And a very happy birthday to you :-).

  17. Happy Birthday! I find I always have to cut off in inch (or more) from shoulder seams due to my short torso and (very) high bust. It makes fitting necklines and sleeves a weary task. I'd love a book detailing how to sort out this problem.

  21. You are so lovely, I would love to throw my name into the hat then if you are happy to post to the ends of the earth :-) I have only just started sewing for myself but so far only wadders. Imagine a Hershey's Kiss and that's pretty much me. Very frustrating when you only have small amounts of time to sew here and there and then it doesn't fit :-(

  22. An offer too good to refuse - and it includes postage to NZ! If I am lucky enough to win this very generous giveaway, you can ship it slow rate, otherwise you will deeply regret it!

  23. Happy Birthday! I could use some help with square shoulders, small bust, large biceps, sway back, and full hips.

  25. Happy Birthday! Such a generous offer. Fitting remains my biggest sewing challenge, I am currently considering varying shoulder height (on someone else). If I was fortunate enough to win this book I would be happy with slow mail, fitting problems don't go away!

  26. Happy birthday Joy,
Please include me in the draw! My main fitting issue is my tummy....... and all that happens with middle age!
